Payroll & Benefits Administrator

Halifax, Nova Scotia

Maritime Broadcasting System Limited is a locally owned and operated group of 24 radio stations across the Maritimes.  We are currently seeking a Payroll & Benefits Administrator.


Reporting to the Director of Finance, you will be responsible for the following:

  • Payroll preparation on a semi-monthly basis for approximately 200 employees, using Ceridian payroll processing software (INSYNC)
  • Managing employee hires, terminations, and the maintenance of employee files
  • Preparing all necessary Payroll and HR correspondence, such as letters of offer, employee memos, etc.
  • Preparing all job postings and the distribution of resumes received  to the appropriate department supervisors
  • Creating monthly journal entries in Excel and entering these into the ACCPAC accounting system
  • Performing a monthly payroll analysis to compare payroll costs to budget and provide an explanation for any variances
  • The administration of all employee benefits: Health & Dental, LTD, Life Insurance, Pension, and GRSP
  • The reconciliation of benefit carrier invoices and approval for processing through accounts payable
  • The processing of year-end transactions, including T4’s, T4A’s, and related reconciliations


You must possess:

  • Post-secondary education in Human Resources, Administration, Accounting, or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum of 3 year’s experience working with Payroll & Benefits
  • Experience working with Ceridian payroll processing software (INSYNC) or a similar automated payroll system
  • Proven ability to meet established deadlines with a high level of accuracy
  • Superior communication skills, are meticulous about detail and realize the importance of respect and confidentiality
  • Advanced computer skills in a variety of software packages, specifically MS Office
